Subject: Brushing off the Dust

Gah. Darned real life.
Okay.. I realize there's about a .00001% chance anyone actually reads this anymore.. but.. just for the hell of it...
Kinben is still something I'm striving for. I haven't been able to do anything about it due to various RL issues popping up (Suffice it to say the issues were bad enough for me to drop out of college after a single semester..).
It'll be awhile before I have a stable connection to the net to even consider, and possibly a long gap between me having a computer I can access for myself for awhile. I've been fiddling with ideas on how to get a basic system going, but since I only just recently figured out a half-decent (half, note, half) way of dice rolling, and still haven't the foggiest how to get C++ to accept strings with spaces..

I plan on messing with the chat programs that the thing came with, hopefully I can make better use of that than C++.. Although I cringe at the fact, if this is going to start, it'll probably start with a text game thing, as can frankly be expected. The text will allow the flushing out of the system to work, etc. Part of it will be figuring out how to minimize programs that have no business in strict RP but made for chat instead. Things like 'hug' commands are just.. dreadful. At least until we have a graphic to it (If we can ever get graphical, 3D hugging, I'll die a happy oddity, even if hugging in itself annoys me)

Now.. I've gone through Greenstorm's posts and done a bit of research of my own lately, and have these things to say.

PKing:
I want to keep freeform the basic premise as much as possible, if dice-rolling battles ever become a major thing, I want it to be an -option- and something that's overshadowed by the roleplaying functions. If stats and such ever become a focus, they're going to be so detailed that you'll be hard pressed to sneak around them. Death is something that annoys me in RP. PKing is a good way to get rid of really obnoxious characters, but its also a good way to upset someone's player and ruin all their work. PKing will begin as, and remain in the forseeable future something that the player decides, and the attacker's player should be careful to make survival possible. IC enemies should be OOC buddies after the day is done.

Languages, Culture, and Starting Points

Languages, I feel, should be exactly as numerous as is logical. Which isn't very numerous. The groups of language that are even conceivable so far as the game is designed is the words of spirits, the words of dragons, the words of the senex, and the words of the major groups of furry breeds. The common language would be amidst almost if not all peoples. I've recently devised a hefty list of various breeds and their possible rarity in the culture. Basic breeds like coyotes, cougars, equines and swine (yes, swine. Somewhere between an orc and a dwarf, the pig anthro will end up being the common laborer, whether or not players dare play one.) are more common than tigers, deer, lizards, and then you have rarer things such as elves and crocodilians, and the rarest of rare, dragonoids, unicorns and the mutant breeds of the renegade senex (griffons and such).

As much as it might annoy some (But I wanna pway a unicorn like all my buddies!, who cares if there's more of us than the mundane equines!?), I'm planning on a graph of existing characters based on AD&D like ratios.. basically I want to make sure the common breeds are outnumbering the very rare ones, partially so the stricter RP that a very rare being should have is enforced (I've read nothing that suggests unicorns are silly creatures.. playful, maybe, but not giggle-bombs that shift shapes all day..)

Aaanyhow, this further leads to the starting point issue.. at first, I imagine, two possible starting places at most, near eachother so that between-area travel is realistic.. other areas will be defined, but only for the sake of origions. When people start gathering into groups, that's when other areas will be added.. only under a constraint of logic. I hate when people make a kingdom then never use it.

If there's anything else, the best way to ask about it is via this board -and- an email to me at lee_jona@hotmail.com Really sorry for the inconveniance, but my current situations' just really really nasty, and its hard to remember to check two emails, a board, comics, and this place all in a one in a week chance online. (If even that, I don't even know what city I'll be living in..)

Anyhow, anything good, send to me at my email address.. here's hoping I can get back online in a more permanent way.
-Jona
