With the new codes coming into play, the following can help you to avoid staff cuts. Permit applications will require additional paperwork and calculations for the reviewer to review, thus needing more office time. Field inspections will increase due to the required inspections of all phases of construction. To help increase fees, one is to increase permit fees. We charge per 100 sq ft of floor area of new construction. The fee varies with the type of construction project. This way the contractor can't submit a lower construction cost and be charged less. We charge a surcharge on all electrical inspections from the electrical inspection agencies. If you have any cell towers, we charge $1,000.00 a year for an anuual license. For zoning approval letters we charge $20.00. If we go out for a final inspection and the project is not completed, we charge an additional $25.00 fee for a return inspection. I hope these few items wll help you.
