My Mission

The purpose for this page is to enlighten public awareness of a crisis in our community and to provide resources so that a neighbor or community leader can help any mentally challenged person who may find him or her self in need of emergency shelter or other supporting services. This site is intended for use by the general public in the South Houston area to start. Herein you will find links to shelters and other organizations that will assist a neighbor if he or she wishes to assist in the following areas; emergency shelter or temporary housing, food bank, home amenity donations, or medical; dental, GP MD, OBGYN, counseling, and job placement.

My specific personal motivation is to bring to the attention of our community the importance of emergency shelter for post special education graduates in the South Houston area. After graduation, the young adult doesn't have financial resources to support him or her self. Their parents are no longer responsible for them and often abandon them to the street. Without the skills of the average post graduate, these young adults have difficulty finding employment without a social worker. Parents are also embarrassed by their children's handicap and don't even show up to ARDS meetings provided by local schools. Most high schools are required to assist special ed students with a transitional package which can be obtained at your local school. There is of today no place for Special Ed Graduates to live or work without the intervention of a parent, social worker or MHMRA.

Some are arrested and held in jail. Others are left to the mercy of the general public who are mostly narcissistic in nature. Sociopaths have a field day with these young adults also. The special ed females destined to become pregnant and the special ed males will most likely get in involved in a crime or with drugs. There are programs for these youths if, underscore IF, they become involved in drugs or a crime but not one shelter in the Houston area will take a person with special needs; ( I called.) The MHMRA. takes 8 years to get housing and longer than 6 months to get a job due to training. The local shelters only take people for 30 days.

In addition to links, just to start, I am trying to put up a board for posting ideas and comments. There is a board for posting comments as followed for; Counselors, Special Ed Directors and Teachers as well as Social Workers. Another board is for the general public to anonymously post ideas or report abuse of a Special Ed Student or mentally challenged person. I encourage both the general public and councilors or social workers to post not only case history, using Jane and John Doe as names, but of just what is in store for these people. I welcome sociologists and psychologists as well as under-graduate students to delve into these pages not only to learn by to get involved. Laws are not change in one day nor are they changed without community support. GET INVOLVED. Sign a petition to support Post Grad Special Ed Emergency Shelter.
