Just finished watching The Neverending story with my children. After a second generation listening to Bastian scream out an obscured name from the school window and much internet searching we have finally figured out that the rumors of his mother's name being Moonchild is true. The book (in German) mentions his mother's name is Mondekind which translates to Moonchild in English. After rewinding and listening (several times over, I might add) we have reached the conclusion that even through the thunder, rain and a very breathed voice of Bastian, he screams out in this manner "Moonchild" or complete transliteration of his word "Moooooonnnchhhiyyaaahhhhh(heavy breath)llld"
