Yes, cmass did sweep the baseball states this year, but baseball and football are two different games, by far.

Baseball allows smaller schools (Nipmuc in CMASS, Norton in EMASS) to excel because great baseball schools do not need 30+ players to support a team. Football does, and the schools that attract and keep a larger percentage of Great/Good football players win by the way of numbers. It really is a easy fact to understand: more kids to draw from equals more chance of stacking a football team with a higher margin of great football players.

I am not saying Emass is better, it just would be impossible to match up teams for a state playoff in a way that would allow fairness. EMass has way too many big name football programs to allow this to happen in a way that would not upset some teams that are clearly better than Cmass and Wmass teams.

Baseball teams certainly don't carry as many players as football teams, but talent is talent. EMass schools that with bigger populations should produce more talented teams in any sport, including baseball, as well as football. My argument takes on a football slant now as I compare Brockton with Leominster, North Middlesex, and Fitchburg....large CMass schools to be sure, but no where near the size of Brockton (for that matter, what school is close to Brockton's size), BUT these CMass teams have competed successfully with Brockton which should have the greater talent pool. It's a moot point because the playoff system won't come into being mainly because of the safety of the athletes (too many games), however talent talks and a highly talented team, even from a small school can on any given week beat a larger school. That's just an opinion, of course. You're statement that the larger EMass schools should have the greater talent pool is absolutely correct, and based on that should win playoffs with CMass and WMass teams, however, I still use my baseball analogy...talented teams will win, no matter the size of the schools.

brockton is not as big as u think, new bed ,durfee,cambridge all equal in size, boxers have dominated fitch and leom since 1970, not because of size but talent, dont forget boxers have won 3baseball, 3 basketball, 30 track states in the past few decades,boxers win unlike other big schools because of superior tradition and athletes

Ben, the premise here is that CMass teams would not survive State Playoffs.....I don't agree with that. For example, if Leominster beats Brockton this year, can it be said that Leominster would not last against other EMass big schools if there were playoffs? The case is arguable, but I use as my example the All-CMass baseball state titles as putting that argument on the side of CMass being able to survive any playoffs with EMass counterparts.
