Hi Genn,

I don't think it would hurt to add natural supplements for a puppy if I had no intention of breeding it. That said, I don't do it, mostly because it is expensive. I did supplement with glucosamine/chondroiten for about 1 month one time, but once my supply was finished I didn't replenish it.

I study the parents and grandparents of the puppy I am buying, and then go from there. If I became aware of any issues with the siblings, then I would probably supplement. In my 30+ years of owning large dog breeds known to be prevalent for HD, I have never had one case of HD or ED. One of my huge Bandogs developed a heart condition when she was 10 years old, but that was the only one.

I am beginning to wonder how much good exercise as a puppy helps things? I don't over-exercise my puppies running on asphalt or anything like that, but they do get a lot of exercise as they run around on my property (soft ground), when I am in the barn working, working on the grounds, and hikes in the woods. Like Jenny said earlier, I don't believe in coddling a puppy.
