Justin nicely worded questions. Unfortunately many of the breeders of boerboels are basing their quality of dog on appraisal scores. In my opinion this is a good way to ruin a breed. There are a few breeders out there who temperament test and actually have standards for breeding stock. Most of the "breeder" stuff on the net is exaggerated. Many are BYB's and worse. I looked for over 2 years before finally finding a suitable dog.I would suggest you visit with both of these breeders. And discuss with them the type of dog you are expecting.
