It is with sadness that I received this news. I was honored to have met Mr.van der Merwe and spend a few days time with him listening to him speak about our breed and the history of it. I have a couple of vivid memories of those few days in Oklahoma; after spending most of an afternoon gathered at a friends table discussing the past and more importantly the future of Boerboels,he was still going strong into the wee hours. He had amazing energy and a passion for a cause he believed in. The other image is when he appraised my dog. She was a young bitch then and had a bit if a sharp demeanor to her and didn't appreciate a stranger staring at her. She tolerated the examination but watched him closely and met his stare. I was thinking she won't score well because of it, but after it had concluded he came up to me and told me he liked the look in her eye and the way she seemed to say "Screw you". I also got a nice score. I'm not a fan of the appraisal system and look at it as just another piece of information, not as a basis for determining suitability for anything. I just wanted the most senior Boerboel man around to look at my dog and to join his registry. I got all that and more. I got to learn. Thank You Mr van der Merwe.
