Sorry to inform you Lena, but the Boerboel already HAS 'blown up' to the public. Simply take a look at the great number of sites available on the 'net where you can purchase a "Champion" Boerboel pup, breeding stock/kennel culls, books on the breed, advertisements on everything from message board banners to city news-rags...we should very soon be able to sell them out front of the malls like Rat Terrier pups. We have been on this very predictable path for a dozen years...the public never learns, breeds always suffer, money will be made and lost, dissapointments will be many, and breeders will come and they will go.
Death nells such as videos, beer commercials, Disney movies, AKC recognition, ALL have their place in the temporary distortion and ruination of a newly emerging breed...dedicated breeders will emerge from the other side, good dogs bred with historic duties and function as criteria will always exist in pockets of fanciers, but they will no longer represent the breed as a whole... they will survive the rush to secure the latest fad from buyers who do not and have never needed a Boerboel for what a Boerboel is. When the breed is represented by big clumsy yard ornaments and veranda sleepers, living out their days much like a Cocker Spaniel does today...trust me, somewhere there will still be capable Boerboels working, guarding, and living out their days as the breed was intended. You just won't find them at the mall.
