Nice article Norman. I believe the heavier weight and build of a Mastiff such as a Boerboel demands different proportions and ratios, but on the whole I agree with the concept that good construction is vital to the ability to do the work of the breed more efficiently and exaggerations of any form detract from that efficiency over a period of time. Poor conformation makes a dog subject to more wear and tear and therefore injury during it's daily life, whether it is a life of an active pet, a hard working dog with a job or a sporting dog. All our dogs could benefit from good or at least better conformation than we generally see, it promotes the correct musculature to achieve maximum effect for minimum effort and can't be ignored when breeding plans are being made. You need what's in the head to know what needs to be done, but you need the running gear to get it there and get it done!
