BKA,
You are correct, performance people understand. Most people do not need a high performance Boerboel, most could not live with one. Luckily for the breed, the individual dogs, and the buyer, dogs that do not quite meet my needs fall nicely into someone else's program or home. Sometimes the difference between my pic and my second pic is splitting hairs. Sometimes I do not keep the highest drive pup either...I may spot something else I need in a pup...balance, that combination of stability, biddability, and proper Boerboel temperament that are more valuable than sheer energy and drive. I need both represented in my program. I worry about programs that want to focus strictly on one aspect of temperament, ie; breeding or pairing dogs of high drive for say, sport, when this breed is not at its best when balance is not actively sought. Pairing highly motivated dogs in continued breedings for several generations can and will change the natural balance that this breed is valued for...stability and reliabilty in the home and family guardian dog...we do not need a breed known for being too hot for its original intended use.

Likewise, we do not need a breed to slow to perform effectively...balance is best.

JMHO,
David
