Subject: UKBC Statement re Sandaharr

I found this official statement from the UKBC on one of the Yahoo Boards, and got permission to cross post it. For anyone who wants to join either of the Yahoo Boards, it is easy to join with your e-mail address and a password.

In response to recent posts regarding a breeder in Scotland:-

Firstly, we would like to make clear that this breeder, Sandra Brownlie of Sandaharr Boerboels, has never been a UKBC accredited breeder. Her breeding practices do not conform to the Club's Code of Ethics (www.ukbc.co.uk/ethics), and a number of the dogs used in her breeding programme do not meet the Club's health criteria (www.ukbc.co.uk/guidelines).

As a breed club, the UKBC believe that all puppies should be registered in the name of the owner. Where pups are not sold at the time the litter is registered, then the BREEDER and not the owner should take responsibility to transfer the paperwork into the name of the owner. We would remind potential owners to ask for a copy of the contract and for comprehensive health information before deciding upon a breeder.

Finally, we recommend that potential owners buy from UKBC accredited breeders where they can be certain that the breeder has signed up to the Club's Code of Ethics; the breeding dogs will meet certain health standards, which have been verified by the UKBC; and they will have the support of the Club in the event of any future problems.

Kind regards
Darren Fryer: UKBC Chairman
