You might not be doing anything wrong, we have fed raw to numerous different breeds sheps, toy breeds, pit bulls and boerboels and all of them drop the excess fat. During the winter months we have experimented with different meat sources,actual beef and wild game fat,lard etc. For the last three years we up the protien and fat content slightly and add an extra cup of oats,brown rice or sweet potato. I however prefer my working stock on the leaner side.
