Subject: Maverick update -- a good dog needing foster
In reply to: Ron 's message, "Re: URGENT Rescue, Toronto, ON. -- not dead?" on 12:05:28 02/02/10 Tue

With respect to Maverick: http://blog.boerboels.ca/?p=328

Just a quick little update -- I sneaked this guy into my house for the weekend, and the short answer is he's a very people oriented goof. :) He loped around, trying to coax me and my dogs to play, he took a bone I offered and refused to eat it in the house (someone must have trained him that bones go outside) and even with the whole house at his disposal and only knowing me for four hours he curled up on the bed beside me while I worked. My GSD tried to push him around aggressively and Maverick ignored him admirably. He asked nicely to go out when he had to, he loved ear rubs, loved playing fetch, and if my dogs didn't want to play he was happy to do a gentle wrestle with me in the yard. Also, I took him for a short run with me, and he's quite the runner!

At this early point I'd say not a tough dog to adopt or foster. Haven't found any big issues yet except that he is skinny and a bit sick of being abandoned (note that rescue will do full eval. later).

He is regrettably back in the kennel now as I'm at "max dogs" for my zoning (and have people who might LOVE to report me if I go over :) ) so anyone dog-aware in Southern Ontario who can foster for a week or two it would be very appreciated as it's sad to have a "people dog" like him back in boarding. Here's the rescue to contact again if you're able to help out: http://www.barlees.org/cgi/index.php

Thanks!
Ron
