My APBT who had seasonal hypothyroid but responded to thyroxine; had hair loss similar to this. he also had all the other problems associated with hypothyroid; weight gain and cruciate problems. In hypothyroid; the hair loss is bilateral; the write ups I've seen for alopecia hair loss says unilateral OR bilateral.

If you do decide to test for hypothyroid; I can recommend Dr. Dodds protocol; very thorough; you can read about it here and get instructions
