I don't doubt that the dogs were selected for performance, but if that was the case and IF a blue dog showed up, they wouldn't have cared what color the dog was. If blue existed, and it was not ever registered, then they didn't select on performance. I don't believe that is the case. I don't believe they would have culled a dog for color...not in a working breed, which the boerboel obviously was/is to a degree.

So, again, I believe the boerboel was a working dog and the reason blue isn't shown in the history of the breed is simply because blue didn't exist in the population.

I believe Am Staff, cane corso, or maybe a bandog from Neapolitan blood was likely added to the gene pool within the last 15 years or so, but that would be pure speculation. It could have been a number of breeds..and any number of occations by now.
