J. The one breeder that responded was David Harris. I didn't know him from Adam. He called shortly after I sent the email. We had a long friendly visit (he and I are the same age and have a similiar path in dogs through life as it turned out). He was happy to take on any questions I had. It's a damn shame there aren't more folks out there like him. Not just for the Boerboel but for all dogs. The internet has been literally disastrous for dogs (and other things) in my view. Although at the same time is a great tool when used responsibly. When I started in dogs you were pretty much confined to regional opportunities. Not that that is bad but it is what it is. The older dogmen many of them were straight with you about what they had and were generally pretty good at calling a dog. Some of the best dogs I ever owned were done on a hand shake and gaurantee was the mans word. But they were equally as good as picking people as they were dogs. If they didn't think you needed the dog they would flat turn you down and tell you so. Now a monkey could wave money at a lot of these folks and they say "SOLDDDD".
My point isn't to run anybody down but rather to maybe enlighten someone who isn't as savvy.
The bottom line is and will always be if you buy a dog it is a long term commitment. If you buy a dog to do something constructive with it is a lot of time, sweat, blood and yes money. With that in mind be sure you are getting exactly what you want in a dog. If you don't you will tend to be less interested in the dog and HE will suffer for it in the end. A big potentially dangerous dog (in the wrong hands or poorly bred) like a Boerboel can cause lots of people to suffer up to and including the entire breed.
