Maybe it's intended to be some sort of morbid guessing game. :P

Anyway, I do agree, as I assume the intent is to hint such as to damage someones reputation without actually taking the responsible step of naming that party explicitly. In my opinion (and hey, it's just an opinion) people should either "sh*t or get off the can" when it comes to accusations, and either cite your sources and prepare to back them up, or just don't bother to hint randomly to settle some oblique score that I frankly can't be bothered to unravel.

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the whole thing, and if so, apologies.
