Greetings all,

Since this latest debate sprang from the issue of credit where credit is due, I will not miss the opportunity to give due credit to John and Barbara Blackwell...friends, mentors, benefactors, to the breed and to many of us personally. John was the instrumental moving force behind the success of the Boerboel in America from the beginning. John was the first to see the potential of the breed here in the U.S., he investigated the breed, the process, and the breeders of South Africa...he brought dogs home with him.

John was the first to reject the notion of the SABT style appraisal, in and of itself, as a means to improve the breed, and fostered the idea of an American style registry...he started one. John understood that real testing and culling would be necessary, so he encouraged others to do the same. John started several message boards in the very early days to let like minded enthusiasts communicate about the direction and purpose of the breed, and was the doorway for many of us to enter.

When the talk turns to who has done what for this breed in this country, John and Barbara top the list. John had the vision, the know-how, and the patience to get this thing rolling...he still serves as registry, moderator, and as some of us like to remind him...Grand-poo-ba of the breed.

Thanks John and Barbara
