Agreed, but how many Boerboels today can follow a horse for a few miles then work/push cows most of the day and then have the necessary phenotype and or work ethic to follow that rancher back home. That is what a correctly bred Boerboel should be able to do if called upon. It is not IMO what a squat, short legged, wide-bodied Boerboel with its chest dragging the ground can do. So rather than breeding for a balanced healthy conformation, it is easier to change the function of the breed i.e., waddling around my 100 foot by 100 foot back yard barking at strangers.
