Subject: Reflection stage 2

Before we start the work for this stage, we reviewed Part 1 and made some improvements, especially the problem scenarios. We rewrote some scenarios such that they are more consistent with the descriptions of the actors and make more sense. Then we started design based on the improved scenarios. I bought a MP3 player before, and did a lot of research when I bought it, so I'm quite familiar with the MP3 products in market. This turned out to have negative effect on my design - I found I could not create better ideas than those already available! Then I tried to go back to the interview results and focus on the special requirements of our demographic, and found something distinct - for example, the senior people may prefer the VCR-style play buttons to the new-age style scroll buttons, and they may not think a tiny MP3 player with the size of a credit card is the coolest thing in the world. I also found a lot of tradeoffs in the design. For example, I wanted the MP3 player to be more useful and provide better functionality, but this unavoidably resulted in more complex user interface. Since our interview showed that the users wanted easy-to-learn interfaces, I had to give up some attractive functionalities.
