Subject: Question for the Group

The Bush Administration is arguing in the Federal Courts that a US Citizen CAN be held in custody indefinitely, without right to legal counsel or speedy trial, because of an association with Al Qaeda as an 'enemy combatant'. In essence, the President believes that the government can strip all legal protections from a US Citizen.

Is this right?

My opinion...I NEVER thought that the government could do this; I always thought that this kind of secret detention without trial or legal representation was the stuff of the "X-files". It is saddening to know that it isn't fiction.
