Window or skylight? Could you be less vague?

Is the Velux skylight the type that come with their own flashing or is it just the glass frame that sits on a framed box? Are you wondering about how to frame a valley or install a roofing product in a valley? What type of roofing are you using? Should I assume the bottom corner of the skylight will drop into this valley? Lead flashings are used in Tile roof applications for their flexibility to contour to the roof. Is this going to be a Tile roof? Are you installing this thru a pre-existing roof?

If the skylight is less then 14" out from the valley, get an experienced professional! unless you have experience. I think you should probably have someone with experience for this in the first place. You have to stay, at the minimum, 3" out from the center of the valley to avoid problems.

If you are interested in proper procedure to flash a skylight I have taken step by step photos that are included in what currently is the first job on the project list in the PHOTO GALLERY (see tool bar at top of page)

what the correct codes are When it comes to building codes there are manufacturer recommendations and then the local building codes. Codes are not to be thought of as "HOW TO's" but they are written as "Allowances and Limitations". You can follow codes and not know the "How To" and run into all sorts of problems. I know the building codes for the areas that I work in. Your building codes are probably similar but not the same. For instance, in King County you use to be able to run one strip of shake liner under a valley and a building inspector would pass the job where in neighboring Snohomish County the valley metal had to be completely covered exposing none of the product to the roof deck. If this was not done the Snohomish County inspectors wouldn't pass the roof installation. Of course standard procedure is to follow the Snohomish County codes so there are never any problems.

After all this I am still unclear on what you want to know for certain and what info I could give to help you out.
