What is the minimun pitch for asphalt shingles?

The minimum pitch would be 3/12 but there is special application instructions for a low pitch roof. I would install it the same on all pitches down to 4/12 and on anything less then 4/12 an Ice and Water Shield over the entire lower pitch. By the way Ice and Water Shield costs about 5 times as much as normal felt paper but you will definitely be glad to have it on there down the road. For 3/12 though I would prefer to install a torchdown roof on it for it better performance on low slope applications.

How is the easiest why to figure angles for the rafters to join-up to a 4/12 pitched roof?

-For a starting point figure the height at the place you wish to tie into. For example say it was 10'.
-Then find the distance from that point out to the wall that your trusses will sit on. For example 12'.
-Then you do some math. To maintain your 4/12 pitch into your tie in you will need to subtract 4" for every 12" of run. This will find the height that you need to build your wall at.
4"x12=48" or 4'.
-So now you know that if you were to build a wall at 6' high 12' away from that 10' wall, you will tie in to the existing 4/12 pitch.
-This is a basic understanding and not sure if its applicable to your project.

I hope this answers your question. I'm not sure if this is what you mean when you say "figure angles"
