In war the weapons advance the most, it should not be difficult to beileve that lasers and turbolasers and especially missiles and torpedoes could advance in range so greatly. Kuat Drive Yards and Gollan Defense Industries aswell as other weapons manufacturors seem to increase the range and rate of fire for weapons every four years or so. There we have research and delevopment in action.

64 megatons, WOW! that's like shooting a colt 45 at a tank, it doesn't do a whole lot to slow it down.

He could be referring to the 200 megaton range of medium turbolasers firing in full salvos (so that all guns are firing) we have a single burts of 12 gigatons [200 mt x 60 guns= 12,000 megatons or 12 gigatons]
