As for the range, issue, it's no closer than when Obi-wan was saying it was out of range, strange that. Maybe they wheren't reffering to weapons, maybe they where trying to capture it, maybe Obi-wan was reffering to the fact that it was a short range fighter in the middle of nowhere and that the fighter was too far out of range to reach anyone.
