OK, Before the Storm, an ISD destroys ground targets on a planet from outside orbit.
Rebel Dream, the Lusankya fires with great accuracy at ground vehicles surrounding and approaching a NR base, from geosynchronus/geostationary orbit, whilst not hitting their own retreating forces.
In Solo Command command the Mon Remonda chases an SSD, already in this book it's clearly described how they use optical magniciation and other sensors tied into bridge viewports, the SSD is just about visible from the viewport and they are closing in on it.
Now a binocular like the one Luke had in ANH is capable of 500 times the magnification, an ISD, let alone an SSD, is visible with the naked eye at 2500km or so, this system could easily magnify 500 times, so the SSD is at a minimum 1.25 million km away at this distance, if it was ISD size, so this is extremely low end.
They'd be in range in in 10 seconds, effective damage range in 1 minute, now at a generous 2000G's of accel for the Mon Remonda they'd be 162,000km closer then
So effective damage range can be said to be 1,088,000km.
Ofcourse the Iron Fist is also accelerating away from them, it's unlikely therefore that the range the Mon Remonda has to cross before reaching damage range is that great.
About the TIE scene again, it's possible they where not talking about weapons at all but a tractor beam, which would make sense since noone manned the guns.
We know the Falcon has a tractor beam from Champions of the Force.
In Showdown at Centerpoint an Assault boat quickly hovers above the horizon of a planet and the ISD in orbit(geosynch most likely as that is standard orbit) tried to shoot it but there wasn't enough time to target it, this however shows they had the range to fire at a fighter sized ship many tens of thousands of km's away.
