Red merle border collie darts into the barns, hot on the scent of the she-wolf. When he had wandered in the wild, he had protected his companion stallion from a pack and he was used to their scents drifting from the reservation. But he knew that that scent didn't belong anywhere on his youth-pup's territory. Since his youth-pup, Falconair, was merely human, it was his problem to see what this she-wolf wanted.
He halted inside the barns and scented the air, tail down and body close to the ground. "Where are you? I can smell you! Come out here and show yourself. What does a hunter have to do in this territory?"
