Their race is paying at least $50,000 total purse just for the outlaw 10.5 class. There is also a big limited street race at this event, which is basically equivalent to the super street 10.5 class that you guys run without the wheelie bars. I don't know if you guys are going to reschedule, but it might hurt the car count at your race. They are also having a second chance race for the guys who do not qualify in the top 32 in the outlaw 10.5 class, so I'm sure that there will be a lot of cars there. There is also a fun ford weekend race (www.funfordevents.com) in Dallas the same weekend, which might also hurt your ford car count. Just letting you guys know. Date Posted: 15:34:09 06/23/04 Wed (172.209.180.31) i can see where you can say arkansas heads up racing is fading away in a sense (other than the fact centerville is doing a great job trying to perserve it). I've been around the prescott track all my life and from what i see the main problem there is the operator. Steve Dedman has owned the track for quite a while and has had his up's and down's this year im saying is a big down. The way he is running not only the Outlaw Program but the way he is running the bracket program this year is doing nothing but running people off and making people mad. I mean yes he has had a great crowd with the first outlaw race this year. But did nothing but bump the pot up a few dollars in each class. There was a drag radial class, from what i saw at the first race there was no cars so automatically steve dropped it even though he didnt even try and promote it that well. You cant expect to have crowds that you would want for a big race or have the car count unless you promote. And just depending on a free website isnt the way to go. The only people i ever see trying to do anything for the track is junkman and cole. yes they dont get everything done but they try alot harder than steve. All i have seen steve do this year is open the gate and watch the money flow in a say well guys this just isnt quite the crowd we need to put the money back out. Even though you have 1500 if not more spectators at what 10 dollars a head on spectator side and 15 for pit and i think just as many go on the pit side. Thats probly around 15,000 in just the gate oh and then the people gotta eat. Last time i went to one of the outlaw races at the end of the night the concession was sold out of just bout everything. im sure you would make a few thousand or so off that. Then lets see what else you need for the race oh yea made races well they pay to get into too they probly bring in bout 5000 for entering all the racers. lets see we are somewhere around the 30,000 area. But oh yea you do have to pay the racers back some money i would say lets see i added up the payout and it came out to be around 13,000 so right there we have a sitting 15,000 plus. Now if it takes 15,000 to pay the electric bill and the works ... because we dont have to worry about vht cause steve never touches it. then i would say there is a few thousand a night just hitting somebodies pocket. And all the racers get in return are... well thanks for coming. These guys support the outlaw program way to much to never get any rewards like larger payouts or the track getting sprayed or what but this whole thing with the people and racers supporting steve and steve not doing anything in return just sucks. Well, I am posting this message to apologize for my cheap shot on the track prep statement. I did post a message a few weeks ago asking for the track personnel to improve track conditions, and I didn't even give them a chance to see if they would. And to all of the fans that I have upset, I apologize for my statement as well. As for whether we'll be coming back to Prescott, it all depends, as I do not soley on the car. It is a family decision that will have to be made down the road. I would like to thank Tom O. and Foster for giving us the heads up about the race cancellation. I won't a lot of you guys to understand that Tom O. makes the same efforts and comittment that the racers do, and that he is a great guy. Tom kept in touch with us all day Friday and Saturday about the race. So we all need to support Tom, and purchase his great DVD's that he provides. See all of you guys down the road. Date Posted: 08:16:13 06/07/04 Mon (137.7.247.18) I can understand everyones frustration with the race being canceled on Saturday and maybe it could have been handled differently. The thing everyone needs to think about is this: Mr. Dedman was told by the power people that he would have power no later than 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning. From what I understand they were having problems down the line somewhere and that in turn affected the progress from that point all the way down the line. There is really nothing that anyone could do at that point. This may have been a new situation that had never arisen before and maybe there was some uncertainty on how it should have been handled. Different people react to different situations in different ways; that is what makes us human. I ask that we not go on a bashing spree to publicly degrade the progress that has been made for the track and the race series to this point. Could it have been handled differently? Yes. Was it? No. I am sure that if something of this nature comes around again the same mistakes will not be made. I am sure it was not done with ill intent and that Mr. Dedman was acting upon the information that he received from the powers that be so to speak. As far as the driving, money and such; I drove almost 7.5 hours, got charged for two days in a hotel that I only stayed one night at because the race was called after the checkout time. Gas money + hotel cost + food + not making anything back due to no race = one broke guy right about now. I will continue to support Prescott Raceway in every way that I can. I sincerely hope that this mishap has in no way damaged any relationships that any racer or fan has with this outstanding race series. Lets not dwell on the problems. I know ya'll wanted to get it in, but if there was a chance that the electricty was not going to be turned on, then you guys should have canceled Friday. We drove 400 miles just to get a phone call right before we got there that the race was cancelled. That's pretty poor planning on the tracks part, but with the poor track prep what can you expect. I know you guys can't control the electricty, but you could have called the race earlier. We had other guys that were coming too, and you cost us to miss out on another race. We had a great time last time, but with the dew on the track it was kind of scary in the semi's, which is why we and Bud Morgan split the purse instead of running the finals. I know you guys want this series to grow, which is why I am posting this response. I don't know how the other racers feel, which is why I am posting this message, but I wish that the race could be started a little earlier. I believe that the way the race is handled, and the time in between round is great. But, we feel that if the race would have started earlier that the fans would have got to seen some side by side action in the outlaw class this past April. Bud and Tony went up in smoke in the semi's, and we (Mike Brown) almost lost it on the big end in the semi's. We've got two round of qualifying, and the race to run, yet we didn't start running til after 4 p.m. Later into the night, when the final rounds were being run, there were fewer and fewer cars going down the track, which allowed the track to get cooler and the dew to settle. Also, I could be wrong, but I personally did not see the track personnel prep or spray down any track bite after the race had started. The launch pad was sticky, but as soon as we got off the pad the track didn't have much bite after that. I'm not trying to step on any toes, or piss anyone off, but I am trying to give my opinion on helping the series grow. I believe the payouts are headed into the right direction, but if you want to see some of the bigger name guys in the outlaw 10.5 racing, then the track prep is what is going to bring them and keep them coming back. Yea, we ran some 4.90s in April, and Tony blasted off the 4.83, but I'm sure the fans would love to see some 80's and 70's all the time. If the track could hold these numbers, the car count would definitely increase, and so would the number of fans. No harm intended, and I am just trying to throw my 2 cents your way to help this series grow. See you guys later. On another note, I think you will see a few more cars from MS in June. Todd Finklea returned to Centerville and laid down a nice 5.24 with very little juice but came up on the losing end of a red-light in round 2. Props to Clay Selig and Jon Foster for excellent driving jobs when each got way out of shape on their runs - the track was tricky for several but with the horsepower of these guys, it was downright scary! Wayne quickly sprayed the track the full 1/8 mile which helped most cars. All these guys are gearing up for June 5 at Prescott from what I hear. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

I havent made the updates on it yet but there are updates on the payouts. Everyclass has larger payouts. Super Street with the most noticeable with 2000 to the winner now. Everything else got some here and some there. Outlaw 10.5 will now be paying 400 in the semi's. Maybe that will help with the guys that support us from out of state. There is no longer drag radial. i wish there was cause i have nothing to race in now. wish there would have been some more interest the first time out. i mean if dont get 10 cars out the first time thats pretty much means you wont ever get a good turn out.... see the humor in that? Does anyone have any suggestions on weighing the cars? I'm sure most of you have seen how difficult it is to get the cars on and off the scales quickly and accurately. When we are crawling around and making sure we get the cars weighed accurately, we can't see who the next guy in line should be. Unfortunately we aren't able to put in-ground scales in (wouldn't that be nice?) donations anyone??? Just wondering..any input will be considered on this issue as well as other issues you might want to see addressed....Thanks for everyone's support and patience as we try to continually improve. Then I saw it at the track in Prescott. I didnt get up close to it, but it was awsome. Its a Chevy, might be a chevelle. Its orange with a silver type flame... It looks maybe rusty, (its not rusted, just then paint job is made to look like it is?)Its gotta blower on it and it did 147mph at the track... Anywayz just wantin to know more bout it. Well i believe that a driver's meeting should be held before the first round. This business about reinstatement after passing the scales is a bunch of bull. If your gonna announce rules all night long stay with them and don't let in. Boy i have to give a hand for they guys down on the scales... they were working their butts off and doing a good job...the only problem was they didn't have any time to watch if someone passed the scales. They truly could use some major help. You guys have an awesome program, but some of the stuff in tech wasn't right. Some stuff was brought up about someone runnin a big block at a small block weight--i believe this is the second time this has happened. What i'm sayin is that the guys in tech need some help. They may just have been in a hurry, but they need someone to check up and help out. I know a sign is affordable for the scales if necessary. You guys do a wonderful job with every race. You guys should come to the COTT race here in Noble and pass out info about your races. Gas and hotels are cheap out this way. It takes about 5.5 hrs driving time, maybe shorter for you speed demons from your track to Oklahoma city. The closest big city to the track is Norman. Hotels there may be higher so check in the town of MOORE. It is just north of Norman. 6 or 7 hotels right on I-35. The Microtel (I think that is the name) on the south side of Moore has lots of space for trailer parking. The track has people who live on site. Security will be in place at the track for overnight camping. I have racers from Colorado staying at my house so I cant offer a room or floor space. Many of those trick mustangs like Chris Derrick's old car will be in the house. Weather should not be a concern. If you hear a tornado warning it could be because so many turbo and blower cars are running at the same time. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

I will get to work on the videos for my site and the PSRA and Prescott sites also as soon as I get home from work. It was good racing all around. The write up should be up tonight. Prescott, I have to say you guys put on one hell of a show once again! You guys never cease to amaze me. I'm looking forward to the race in June already! I had quite a few people ask about the DVD from the "Fall Brawl" (last race in 2003). I am going to get some made. I was thinking that I could make a double disc set and have the "Fall Brawl 2003" and this last race (Spring Fling? LOL, sorry, couldn't help it) in one package deal. Make the price $20.00 at the track and $23.00 if you order online. I think I can get the guys that dupe my videos to work with me on the pricing if I can order enough.
