Subject: Maintain Balance for your Prosperity! (Altar Survivor!)

The need for balance is highlighted as we look at the life of Isaac. It does you no good to live beneath your privilege. On the other hand, you must make sure you don't rub people’s faces in your life of privilege. It is easy to be caught up with the blessings that come your way and the need to tell everybody about it. But that person who just had their lights turned off doesn’t want to hear it. There are some things best kept to yourself.

Joseph kept telling his dreams of promotion and exaltation to his brothers and parents when it would have been best to keep them to himself. Most people can't handle our blessings. So don't tell them! Notice, I said don’t tell them. I did not say don't have them.

Receive every blessing that comes your way and rejoice about it even if it’s just to yourself. Be gracious and share your blessings. God does not bless us for us to build bigger barns to hold our wealth. What should be important to us is flow, and not storage. I know that as He took care of me today, He will take care of me tomorrow. Again, balance is the key word. I don't spend it all or give all of it away. I eat some. I give some. I invest some and I store some.

"Rainy days are just as important to the harvest as sunny days. The lack or abundance of either can ruin a harvest. There will be times when the reaping will not be great. That is to be expected."...

Abraham handled his wealth well. One of his secrets was that he recognized where it came from. So when the King of Sodom wanted to bless him with the spoils of conquest that Abraham received when he rescued Lot from the invaders of the land, he politely said no thanks. Abraham acknowledged that he had made a vow to the Lord that God would be the only one that could say He made Abraham rich. (Genesis 14:21-23).

"When you know that your wealth is proceeding from the Hand of God you don't have to engage in shaky business deals, or gamble in Las Vegas or on the New York Stock Exchange or take advantage of others to increase the profit margin. The Lord honors those who honor him. Honor him and he will direct your path. I know from whom my blessings flow. I can do the right thing and yet be blessed."

It is vitally important to protect your name and character by doing the right thing. Pay your bills. Your credit will get you into places your cash can not. Credit speaks to your name, your reputation, and your character. Cash says nothing. When you go to rent an automobile, cash can not help you. They want a credit card. A credit card says somebody checked you out and thought you were worth this amount in trust.

On the road to greatness, trust is a must. If people can't trust you, your word means nothing. They may like your work, appreciate your gift and admire your good looks, but they will not follow someone they don't trust. Yes, they may be around as long as you are marking time, but when the battle comes, the desertion rate will climb. In many cases, your name is all you have, protect it.

Because Isaac did not let money rule him, he was able to handle the backlash his wealth brought to him. Abimelech acknowledged that Isaac was mightier than his neighbors and could have exacted a heavy penalty from his neighbors for the slights. But instead, Isaac moved out of the town when Abimelech asked him to leave.

We cannot let our prosperity go to our heads. Even though fighting back is possible, it may not be what God wants. Let us not let other folk’s weaknesses become ours. Prosperity is something we all desire. It will come on our road to greatness. How we handle it will determine if we finish the journey.

Remember BALANCE. Don't go off the deep end, and be an extremist. Find and maintain balance and prosperity will work for you!
