Subject: Just to let you guys know WHAT'S going on, so you're not completely out of the loop :

Jordan's group at camp went on an overnight trip yesterday & he and Joey didn't want to go. They were assigned to stay with the 11 year olds, a younger group for the two days (yesterday & today).

They were not participating in softball and were sitting BEHIND the dugout... tossing small rocks at the wall. According to Jordan, a counselor told them to make sure they don't hit anyone and he went back to the game. (You know a counselor cannot admit to his boss that he said something like that to a kid, IF it really is against camp policy.)

Next thing.... the division leader walked by and a group of the kids ran over & said Jordan & Joey were throwing rocks AT THEM, stole money from their backpacks, broke their locks and took things from their lockers.

They were sent to the office & now are suspended from camp for today... until their REGULAR GROUP returns home.

The way *I* see things, the substitute counselors don't get paid to have headaches from kids that aren't even their "own" and wouldn't work TOO HARD to settle these type of problems since they are so temporary!

The camp's position : Rock throwing is a VERY, VERY SERIOUS OFFENSE!!

MY position : It's unreasonable for a camp to throw a kid out unless it is previously known and CLEARLY stated that a behavior is ELIGIBLE for suspension.... so parents can make SURE their kids know.

Ok... obviously, I'm NOT making a federal case out of FORCING the camp to entertain him for today.... (a rule is a rule & he really does have to be more responsible. Rock throwing or even tossing really isn't acceptable to me either)

I made it clear to the counselors involved that I UNDERSTAND that they really don't want "extra headaches" (they're caught in the middle of all this) when they're not being paid to watch MY son.

I made it clear to the director that I understood his position on rock throwing, but was VERY disappointed in the way this matter was handled and then we left.

This is Jordan's SIXTH YEAR at this camp. Never heard about any "rock throwing" rules before yesterday!
Ok.... I vented! Ahhhhhhhh.

Holy shit!!!!! I'm turning into Babysitter?! Somebody shoot me.

I think I'll go play on Webmillions. See you in an hour. Hahahahaha

[> LOL...Turning into Babysitter...Cute Mel....Good luck today. Being a mother of 3 grown sons, when they were little, All kinds of things happened like that. Rock throwing, BB gun shooting out neighbors window, Rock thrown at a car window of a REAL big man...(*I* hid on THAT one)..lol.....Everything will iron out, it always does. Kids are going to be kids and that's just the way life is... -- Cindy (tyring to be PHD), 08:15:53 07/11/02 Thu

[> [> Thanks Cindy! To be honest, I'm not really THAT upset. I do NOT magnify these type of incidents. I'm much more disappointed that a day camp would seemingly blow off a kid so easily for pretty typical but obnoxious and stupid behavior. IF I made a big scene, it would send the wrong message to my kid. Doing STUPID SHIT &/or being a SMARTASS doeS NOT entitle a kid to a mom's BEST DEFENSE. I'll see you in a bit.... have to run out for a little. -- Mel, 08:45:12 07/11/02 Thu

[> Holy shit Mel!! *I* have NEVER heard of a kid being so bad that they got SUSPENDED from camp!!! What on earth have you been teaching that kid??? j/k Sounds to me like Jordan and Joey got shafted because they were the odd men out so to speak. Too bad, since Jordan has been attending that camp for so many years. Hope it doesn't turn him off of camp entirely. Shit happens when you have kids, boys or girls. When you take him back again, ask them for a list of rules so Jordan will know what is or is not proper camp etiquette. LOL Cindyloo, "hiding from 'big man' in car". -- Peg, 08:49:09 07/11/02 Thu

[> I know this one... it's called *Not my kid!* lol... go head Mel... give em hell! I remember when my son shot out someone's winshield with a bb gun... and I remember when he took a big, fat, orange, plastic ball bat to my bay window. BOYS! Hang in there... the day will get better (hopefully) .... tell them counselors to please NOT make up thr rules as they go along! ....and also, I don't think it was very fair of them to *assume* those other boys were telling the truth... they should have been allowed to confront their accusers.... ok, I'm done! Have a good one! -- Tina, 10:43:05 07/11/02 Thu

[> Mel - I knew this would happen someday if you insisted on having a REAL kid! Didn't Zippy and I warn you about the dire consequences of living with actual, live children? That's why we have critters. They hardly ever get thrown out of anything. Well except for that little "puppy kindergarten" incident. (Sheesh - how embarrassing!) Anyway, keep feeding him everyday and with any kind of luck he'll grow up, get a terrific job and pick out a wonderful nursing home for you and your hubby. He WILL get past his teens - I promise! Love ya. -- Lorraine/Mandy, 17:20:57 07/11/02 Thu
