Subject: MAKING COLORFUL CRYSTALS

MAKING COLORFUL CRYSTALS

1. Measure 4 teaspoons of water and 3 teaspoons of powdered tawas into the pan.
2. Bring the mixture to a complete boiling, stirring for a few econds until all of the tawas is dissolved.
3. Carefully stir while pouring the tawas solution into the small plastic ice cream cup.
4. Don’t cover the cup. Place it on a tabe for three days. Do not disturb or move the cup. Soon crystals will be forming at the bottom.
5. After three days, carefully pour off the excess water.
6. gently remove he crystals. If the crystals are too hard to come off the cup, just cut and gently push he crystals out from the bottom.
7. Spread the crystals on a piece of toilet paper, scratch paper or table napkin for further drying. Leave them till they dry.

TO MAKE COLORFUL CRYSTALS:

1. Follow step ONE. Add 10 drops of green coloring to make “emeralds”; 12 drops red to make “rubies”; 10 drops yellow to make “topaz”; 10 drops blue to make “sapphires”; and 6 drops yellow, 2 drops red and 1 drop green to make “amber”.

If you do this a number of times, you may get two very different results. One, the crystal is hard and in one piece. Two, the crystal is very fine like sand but very shiny.
