==SOUND CHECKS==
They are very important, especially if you want want to sound good.
It's also a good idea to be early for your sound check, so that the other bands after yours doesn't get delayed.
Sound checks are also NOT... time for you to tune your guitars (do your tuning before going on stage)
Make sure every member of your band is there for the sound check so that the soundman can balance your sound with all your instruments being played.
Lastly, after you play a song for your sound check, remember your settings, so that u can use them when u perform later.
- sound check is for you to tweak your sound, amp settings, monitor levels etc. it is not a time for rehearsal. tho sometimes i'm guilty of that as well *sheepish grin*
- optimum time for soundcheck is 10-15minutes. any longer and you'll delay the schedule and inevitably piss off a great deal of people, especially when you're playing with a lot of other bands.
- play one loud song and one soft song from your set list, to make sure the levels are balanced and there won't be too wide a dynamic shift when you move from loud to soft volumes.
- drummers, adjust the set to your liking.
- bassist, eq the amps to your liking, and balance your levels with the guitarists.
- guitarists, eq your amps, adjust your amp levels, AND balance your distortion levels properly.
- paper and pen are essential to write down your amp settings, especially all you guitarists out there! no one, and i mean, no one, will remember their settings in the heat of the moment... and your sound will inevitably screw up. trust me, it happens to the best of us.
- it helps to have a friend who knows your sound to listen and advise the band or soundman, especially when it comes to balancing levels. you can't always trust the soundman (no offence guys, just that every band has different needs). this same friend should be advising the soundman and the band throughout the soundcheck as well as during the gig.
