Subject: museum memories

I enjoyed all the technical exhibits, of course. But one of my favorite non technical memories was of the snow man in the water exhibit. It had real snow/ice on it, that you could dig your fingers into - one of the traditions I had every time I visited the museum. I was happy to notice that you can actually see the snowman in the background of one of the photos you have.

Another memory is of the sound the multiplier exhibit in the mathematics section made. It operated by means of relays - one for each light bulb I think, and the higher the numbers you multiplied the louder the "ka-chunk ka-chunk" was, as each row turned on. With a little practice you could tell approximately what numbers were being multiplied with your back turned by the sound. If someone built that exhibit today I do not think they would use relays!
