All the reviews of Zone Alarm that I have seen have been favourable. I have Zone Alarm Pro and have no complaints. Where did you hear that it was rubbish?

I read somewhere that Black Ice is not a proper firewall but acts as a complement to it.

Black Ice is an older product that some people think is past its sell-by-date, despite its updates. It was an early entrant to the PC security market before a whole range of new security software (including firewalls) flooded the market.
