Hey Shane! I'm beginning to think your a forum junky as well as a hunting junky..LOL
Phil sat and talked extensively with the biologist for Ocala about the herd here. They are puzzled at the decline of the herd also. I know I have seen 5 road kills so far since hunting season started. 4 does and a button buck. This season I am also seeing more coyote than ever. Between lack of enough people to cover Ocala WMA, poachers, legitimate hunters, highways running on every border and through it, predation by coyotes, panthers and maybe bears on the young deer and combine all this with a bad season for acorns and nothing more to eat but scrub oak and grape leaves, it's no wonder the herd is declining. Phil wants the forest service to make the lumber/pulp wood cutters plant rye or clover when they roller chop as a ground cover/food source until the clear cut's can sustain enough soft mast for the deer in that area. I truly don't know of one positive thing anyone is doing for the deer herd in Ocala. I've seen 2 game wardens all season and 1 of the 2 Forestry cops. It's sad!

Hey Ken!...My first time here. Nice forum..Thanks for the heads up about the permit being in the mail...I'm watching the mailbox!...Have a good one guys..

Jim
