Welcome!

I established this forum hoping it might become a functional repository of information related to ownership, restoration, and maintenance of arcade game machines. My own personal interests are in classic (1972 - 1985) arcade "video" games, but any discussion regarding later model computer coin-ops, pinball machines, casino games, or even mechanical arcade amusements (such as "crane games" and "bash the gophers") are welcome.

You certainly do not have to own one of these machines to hang here. I, for one, plan to be posting "game wanted" notices in the near future. Anyone is welcome, so long as he (or she) abides by the rules of VoyForums and Voyager Info-Systems while here.

To begin with, I would like to provide some links for those of you who are interested in the subject at hand. These will give you a hearty boost into the vast (and ever growing) world of classic arcade mania, and a foothold upon the mountain of information available...

A look at how true love can affect a person!

I wish to state that true love served as the very impetus for my establishing this little forum. I truly love those noisy, sizzling, massive old machines! I guess that I came along at just the right time to be mesmerized by them. I actually remember life without ever having seen one; I was starting kindergarten the year I first encountered the mythological "Space Invaders". My resultant mania transformed me instantly into a shameless little beggar. "Mom, please, another quarter?" became my mantra on Saturday shopping afternoons. And I actually got to play nearly all of the now recognized classics, though I lived in a rather small Texas town. It was amazing the way that they sprang up everywhere! The grocery stores, convenience stores, downtown shops, the bowling alley, and, of course, Wal~Mart (which always held two or three of the very best). Finally, around 1982, local investors built a shopping mall, and the very first true arcade in town. Man, you should have heard that electro-racket through the ears of this nine year-old!
I guess that, like everyone, else, I'm really only wanting to get back to the womb. I just want to spend a roll of quarters in one of those early 80's arcades, along the way!

Let me shut up and get the ball rolling. I currently own two machines: An Atari Asteroids Deluxe stand-up, and a Taito Space Invaders *Trimline (scaled-down stand-up). The Asteroids Deluxe I was fortunate to find in almost assembly line condition. (No, it is NOT for sale!) The Space Invaders, on the other hand, I pulled from the barn of an ex-girlfriend's uncle. It had stood out there, sheltered from the rain (but not from the heat and humidity) for about a decade. Upon getting it home, the first thing I did was to remove a dead mouse from the switching regulator assembly. After breaking it down and cleaning it up, I am delighted to find that it is not in irreparable condition, after all. Three items I know to be missing are as follows:

Speaker Grill (Taito no. 5000072)
Speaker 8 ohm 5 Watt (Taito no. 014003)
Video Focus Pot (Taito no. unkown)

If anyone has any information regading availability and/or cost of these items (or regarding the 1981 Taito Space Invaders *Trimline, in general), please let me know. The parameters of the video focus pot would be very dear to me, as equipment for determining this (on any of the other pots) appears to be the one vital piece of equipment which I do not have.

Thanks, alot.

Everyone: Please feel free to post your buy, sell, trade, want, & need information, techinical know-how and know-not, as well as just good old discussion about those grand old machines! Just remember: EVERYONE is welcome here. The Bill of Rights of the US Constitution applies in this forum. There is no official gender, race, religion, nationality, or political philosophy here. But neither are you allowed to beligerently attack, or attempt to abridge the liberties of, anyone who posts here! (Socratic argument, alone, is encouraged!)
