Hi all,
I would like to express a change I would like to see incorporated in our games. I would like to see "bidder goes out" as the rule for games where both opponents go over the limit, whether it be 250, 300, 350 or 500. What this means is if you take the bid on the final hand and you exceed the game limit, your team wins egardless of what the opponent has for a final score. I feel this adds more challenge to the game. Teams would push the envelope to get that last bid when the game is close. It also can prevent a team from winning just on meld alone, something I feel most good pinochle players dislike. (That is the reason I left Flipside...meld won those games, not skill in play.) It also keeps the game interesting and challenging when one opponent may have a score of 240 in a 250 game and the other opponent only has something like 180. If the 180 team takes the bid and gets over 250, they win, regardless if the 240 team simply saves and goes over 250. This would make the 240 team remain competitive instead of just coasting out. It is the way I have always played the game in real life. I think if enough people agree, Babydoll and the group would change the rule. I could be wrong, but I hope not. Like to hear your comments. Thanks.
