Subject: That's how muscovies are

If you don't clip the females wings they are liable to fly off. Sometimes they come back and sometimes they don't. The males can't really fly in the true sense of the word, but those females will. Muscovies are related to wood ducks - they nest high in trees so the predators (including male muscovies) can't get to the eggs. That is why offspring from muscovies and domestic ducks are sterile (mules or hinnies). Muscovies are much better at keeping bugs down than domestics (they will eat pretty much anything). But you won't hear them quack. The males kinds hiss and the females make little sqeaking sounds. I'm sure you are aware by now about their nasty sharp claws too (good for perching in those trees).
