I remeber saying how System Of A Down sound like they record multiple versions of one song, and cut and paste in protools, because the transistion from fast to slow is too smooth for any human. ie. the pizza pizza pie song.
In St. Anger i think they've anal raped the chorus, by putting the level of the backing vocals higher than the lead vocals. The main focus is the 'let's force it out' part, when the lead singer is singing 'st anger round you neck' I admit i dont know the words, so if they are wrong, dont crucify me over it. but i think its quite apparent that Metallica have discovered the wonderful world of Protools, because the transition from the heavy chorus, to the verse is too smooth. Don't get me wrong, I think Protools is a great program, I just think that it, like engineers, are better when you don't notice them. If the technical team does their job properly, you shouldnt even be aware that they exsist. Its likely that Metallica have fallen into the trap which nearly everyone does. They've gotten carried away with the technology, and forgotten about the fact that they are supposed to be recording an album. Most people do, no matter how long you've been in the industry, give someone protools and they have all likelyhood of making an album which doesnt please.
