Subject: The Last Six Days Of My Life

Thursday - The Introduction...I was working a close at Gap. At 10pm, there was quite a knock at the door. I looked up and saw a familiar face - Andrea, one of my co-workers. She had brought her new roomate to meet ME. It turned out he was a georgious 6' guy named Jeff, perfect in every way. Sigh. I was nervous and didn' say much. (Idiot moment # 1.)

Saturday - Drinks at Andrea's...Saturday night and I was headed to the Beaches for drinks at Andreas house. I was still nervous and mad at myself as I did not present myself well at all to Jeff. The evening went like this...Andrea says, "Dave, Jeff's going to work at Banana Republic...Dave, Jeff grew up in Halifax...Dave, Jeff lived on a farm...Dave, Jeff wants to be an interior designer..." My response was always - "oh". Am I a complete space cadet - it was a set up. Argh! (Idiot moment #2)

Sunday - The Next Morning At Work...Andrea just looks at me and laughs. She tells quite frankly that we are not being set up, she just really wants us to get to know each other. She feels we would get along famously. I ask for another chance, and luckily we are headed to Concert the following night.

Monday - Beth Orton Concert aka Second Chance...I am waiting in line at the Phoenix Concert Hall with my current roomie, my future roomies and a coworker. Andrea and Jeff are no where in sight. The line moves and still, no Andrea and Jeff. I decided to wait for them. I see them coming down the street. I turn my back to them so they can find me. We exchange hellos and nothing, absolutely nothing else is said.

Later Monday - After the Opening Act, but just before Beth. Andrea, Jeff and I are standing in the crowd. Still not much is being said. Andrea says she off to the bar to get a drink, leaving me alone with my future husband and/or friendly acquaintance. I turn and begin the sentence, "So Jeff tell me about you..." when my new roomie, Jenny (love her) interupts in hr drunken stupor (sp?). Argh! She leaves and we have brief discussion about his past, present and future. A short pause and then he says, "Now you..." Before I can answer, Andrea's back with her drinks and Beth's on stage.

Even Later Monday - Seven Fabulous People Jammed into an Escort...Jeff's in the front, I am in the back. We are both being smoithered by several people. I remember that on Saturday he had mentioned that he had wanted to see Signs. I say to Jenny, "What are we doing on Wednesday, maybe we can see Signs?" (knowing full well, that we won't) She says no. Jeff says, "Signs? I really want to see that movie..." I say nothing. Idiot moment #3.

Tuesday Morning - Talk with Andrea...She says she doesn't know how it went Monday, he didn't comment (I promised myself I would no longer over-analyze situations, so this means nothing to me). I say that I am going to see Signs by myself, and if ANYONE would like to join me they are welcome. She tells me she's "off-duty" and that I have his number.

Tuesday Evening - The E-mail...I compose a very humurous e-mail to Andrea, adding in paragraph three an invite (on friendly terms) to Jeff re: the movie.

Wednesday - no response

Thursday 9am - still no response

Thursday 11:26am - :(
