Chapter 9

Just as he pulled the trigger someone burst through the front door, between the gun and Talib and was knocked to the ground by the impact of the bullet hitting his body. Terina stared at the body in disbelief as two officers overtook Stevie and got the gun away from him, and read him his rights. The room filled with people, but Terina didn't see any of them, just the lifeless body lying on the ground before her. She crawled over to the body and gently stroked the man's face.
Terina: "Daddy? Daddy, you're going to be ok, the doctors will be here any second. I'm so glad you came Daddy, you saved Talib�s life, do you know that? Maybe they'll give you some sort of award or something..I'm so proud of you Daddy..Daddy? I love you..just lie still ok? The doctors will be here.." she felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Talib looking at her, concern written all over his face. She smiled at him and squeezed his hand.
Terina: "Don't worry Talib, it's alright..Daddy is going to be ok, just look at him..lying there smiling.." she laughed.
Talib: "No..darling..no, he's not going to be alright..Terina, your dad is dead" She let go of his hand.
Terina: "No..No Talib, you don't know what you're talking about, you don't know my dad. He wouldn't die on me.."
Talib: "Darling.." Talib tried to hug her but she pushed him away and jumped up.
Terina: "YOU ALWAYS THINK YOU KNOW DON'T YOU?!" tears began to stream down her cheek.
Terina: "You just sit there waiting to say it.. 'I told you so'..well you're not going to say it this time!! YOU'RE WRONG!"
Talib: "Terina! That's not true!" Talib tried to catch her before she ran out of the house, but he missed and wasn't able to run after her.
Medic: "Miss? Excuse me, Miss?" Terina turned around to see a medic tentatively approaching her. She wiped away her tears hastily and smiled at him.
Terina: "Can I help you?"
Medic: "Are you related to the man in there?"
Terina: "Which one?"
Medic: "The one..the one..on the ground.."
Terina: "Oh yes That's my father..he just saved Talib�s life you know..my father's an amazing man"
Medic corrected: "Was" She frowned at him.
Terina: "What?"
Medic: "Your father was an amazing man. I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this Miss, but your father is dead. The bullet killed him upon impact.." Terina didn't hear anything else he said. She cut him off mid sentence.
Terina: "I'm sorry, you must be mistaken, my father wouldn't just leave me like that.."
Medic: "No Miss, there is no mistake, I'm truly sorry.." she stared at him in a stunned silence.
Medic: "Are you ok Miss, would you like to sit down? Should I get you something to drink?"
Terina: "No..no..do you know where Talib is?" her voice was disjointed and absent, and she worried the medic. He'd seen many people go into shock, and get detached from the world when someone close to them died.
Medic: "Talib? Is he Talib the guy from Imajin?" Terina nodded.
Medic: "I believe they took him to the hospital already.."
Terina: "Oh" she smiled at him, but instead of warming his heart, like her smiles usually did, this one seemed weird.
Terina: "Could you take me there please?"
Terina: "Talib?" Terina tentatively approached the bed. Talib put on a brave smile for her and took her hand.
Talib: "How are you darling?"
Terina: "Talib..my daddy is dead.." Talib fought to swallow the lump in his throat.
Talib: "I know darling, I know.."
Terina: "What am I going to do?"
Talib: "Terina.." Talib pulled her closer to the side of the bed and gently traced his fingertips up and down her bare arm.
Talib: "I don't want you to worry about that now..your father died for me, and he did it because he loves you, and because I love you too..I'm going to take care of you.."
Terina: "You..you love me?" Traces of a sad smile played across Talib's lips.
Talib: "Of course I do Terina..since about forever.."
Terina: "I love you too.."
Talib:"I know you do"
Terina: "Talib..it hurts.." she moved her hand to above her heart,
Terina: "right here.."
Talib: "I know darling..but it won't hurt so much after a bit, you just have to be brave, and remember your father loved you very much, even though he was wrong about sending you to Stevie's, he was doing the best job he knew how to do and now he's in a better place and looking down on you.." Terina smiled sadly.
Terina: "Thank you Talib"
