Message Management & Moderation

I. General

Message Moderation is handled from the Forum Owner area available at the Owner Login page. You may set your forum to be Moderated in the General Configuration; look for the option Moderated Forum.

The Message Management area off the Owner Login page is where you can approve/unapprove messages. If your forum is set to Moderated, all new messages are unapproved, and thus, invisible to users.

Additionally you can clear all messages in your forum, if desired, with the Clear All Messages option off the main configuration menu.

II. Deleting Messages

Selecting the Message Manager or Archive # options will present you with an index of your forum messages. Two checkboxes are available, the left box has a [DEL] trashcan image next to it. If selected it will mark a message for deletion.

Messages are only deleted once the Submit Changes button is clicked. If you made many mistakes, click the Clear Marks button.

Deleting a message will delete all of its replies.

III. Approving/Unapproving Messages

If your forum is set to Moderated in the General Forum Configuration, new posts are marked Unapproved and are invisible to visiting users.

Regardless of your forum being Moderated or not, messages may be manually selected Approved or Unapproved, making them Visible or Invisible to users.

Selecting the Message Manager or Archive # options will present you with an index of your forum messages. Two checkboxes are available, the right box is the Approve/Unapprove checkbox. Next to this checkbox will be an image; this image is normally a thumbs up [UNAPPR], meaning the message is currently Approved/Visible to users -- if you select the checkbox, upon submitting changes, this message and all its replies will be marked Unapproved.

If the image is a thumbs down [UNAPPR] image it indicates the message is currently Unapproved/Invisible to users -- by selecting the checkbox and submitting the changes, this message and all its replies will be Approved and Visible to users.

IV. Status: Knowing if new messages have been posted

A new area has been added under your forum containing a few bits of status information on your forum, including the count of messages and the count of unapproved messages. If your forum is set to Moderated, newly-posted messages are unapproved, so you may take a look at this count to check for newly-posted messages without having to log into the Forum Owner area.

This page is not password protected so it is available to any user that knows to visit that URL. You may disable this page by deselecting the option Status Info in the new Special Features area in the Forum Owner menu.
