"This is a great result and particularly pleasing because we are moving into the higher patronage growth months of the year, and we can look forward to building on this achievement." ------------------------------------------------------------ Transurban recently announced a significant improvement in its financial performance for the year ended June 30 2002, with an increase in tolling revenue of $61.3 million, or 42 per cent for FY02. The outlook for FY03 is for continued robust growth. ------------------------------------------------------------ For further information contact: Mark Pearce Tel 03.9612.6975 Mobile:0417.367.425 mpearce@transurban.com.au ------------------------------------------------------------ DATE Sunday 8 December 2002 ------------------------------------------------------------ CityLink customers get ticket to ride in Sydney Making travel easier and more convenient during the holiday period and beyond CityLink’s 850,000 e-TAG® devices will today become Victoria’s ticket to the fast lane on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel. CityLink CEO, Brendan Bourke, today announced the arrangements with the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) to enable CityLink customers to drive on two of the New South Wales toll roads. Mr Bourke said CityLink account holders used to have to stop to pay at manual toll collection plazas when driving on the Sydney Harbour Bridge or through the Tunnel. From today, CityLink customers can cruise through the fast lane using their e-TAG devices and, for a small processing fee, have the toll automatically deducted from their account. “CityLink is delivering on seamless interstate toll travel which makes travel easier and more convenient for our customers, in the lead up the holiday period,” he said. CityLink e-TAG devices have been interoperable with Queensland’s Tollways since August this year. “The take up from interstate visitors between Victoria and Queensland has been very encouraging and feed back from customers has been excellent,” he added. “Holidaymakers and interstate freight industry operators are expected to reap the greatest rewards from this new deal with New South Wales which makes interstate travel much simpler. “The benefit to freight companies will be significant with no need to carry multiple electronic devices to travel in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, and a single billing and account management contact point”. CityLink accountholders do not need to register with the RTA to take advantage of the new exchange arrangements. Customers simply drive through the E-toll lane on the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the E-toll lane through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and listen for their familiar account status beeps, which let them know their e-TAG device has been read. CityLink is now negotiating with other toll road companies in Sydney and NSW with the goal of introducing more interoperability arrangements to make travel even more convenient for CityLink customers. When driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the Tunnel, CityLink customers will be charged the usual tolls plus a 10% administration fee to process the tolls against their account - $3.30 in total for all vehicles including trucks. Sydneysiders visiting Victoria and Queensland will also benefit from the deal. They can use their RTA E-toll device to drive on CityLink and have their existing account charged.
