"Yes..." she paused, her eyes becoming distant. For a moment pain flickered in her eyes. Her face were turned towards SpiritShadow, her eyes on his face, but they seemed to see something other than him...something full of agony, hurt, and grief. Her whole being seemed to change somehow from a joyful wolf to one full of suffering and painful rememberence. Then her eyes blinked and focused on SpiritShadow once more. "I know what you mean. If you'll excuse me, I think I need to be alone for a time."

She walked slowly away across the tundra, and her young body suddenly seemed crippled and old, her paws sinking sadly and wearily into the ground with every step. When she was away enough to think, her mind took her back to the old pack that she had once lived in.

She cried out in agony and fell limply on her side, a small defensless pup against the paw of the alpha male. His teeth snarled in her face, his eyes flashing with anger. If you EVER! ever ask for more food again... He did not finish his sentence but instead snapped his jaws so close to her face that she could feel the warmth of his breath on her. She was only three months old at the time, but she knew what he meant. Trembling, she lay there, her eyes closed, rocking back and forth in fear. Soon, she felt his presence leave and his shadow lift, and in it's place was her mothers, licking her clean, tending to her. Tonight we will leave, my love. Tonight. Slowly, her trembling subsided and she breathed deeply in sleep, resting before the night so that she would be awake and ready to escape from the grasp of the evil alpha.

Her whole body reflected her pain, but it was her eyes that most vividly did so, showing her rememberance of the day so clearly and painfully. Without even realizing what she was doing, she lifted her muzzle to the sky and let out a long, mournful note, which soon turned into a low song, whispering her pain through the valley.
