Dear David:

First, thank you for your comments. That you have enjoyed my work is very pleasing to me. It is also the best reward a writer can recieve, and I accept it as a personal gift from you.

Because I am a writer and a student of literature, I understand that what a person draws from a piece stems in large measure from what they bring of his or herself into the reading process. Some have reacted strongly to the sense of self-understanding that the characters go through in the course of the stories. Others attach themselves to the themes of brotherhood, family and unity. Still others find the exploration of love as a both personal and societal issue very compelling. Then again, matters of spirituality excite a different sect of the audience. Regardless of what a person gains from the writing, it is my duty as an author to employ as many devices as I can to make the meaning and messages in the work as broadly accessible as possible. When I receive comments such as yours, it tells me that I have -- in part -- succeeded in my aims.

I am not an author who demands that the readers adhere to my interpretation of the work. That would be a disservice to both sides of the writing process. Instead, I rather enjoy the fact that people will find what they want and sometimes what they need without my explicit guidance. Since I am thinking very carefully and heavily while I write, the only expectation I have is that the audience will think along with me. These are stories that explore the human condition, albeit in a bizarre fashion at times. However, that does not nor should not dilute the experience for the reader. From what you have stated, I see that such has been the case.

My thanks to you again for this public posting. I am grateful and humbled that you would take the time to do so.

Yours,
Drake
