>My son bought me a 2007 Kia Rio last year.....

Your primary problem in all of this is your servicing dealer. With those kinds of accusations, you need to state their name and town so that others will be warned. Also... is this Kia dealership a "standalone" Kia dealership, or do they sell other makes too? Many problems I've seen published online with Kia dealerships stem from the dealership only "dabbling" in Kia's.

The "tires-for-life" schtick is not part of Kia's warranty. That was a sales gimmick that the dealership added. Blame only them for not giving you your new tires. How do you know that the front end is "bad", and the cause of the tire problems? Does it wander or pull on the road? And... did you EVER rotate your tires? 25,000 miles on a set of front tires that have NOT been rotated will toast them on nearly ANY vehicle. If you didn't rotate, the I think that's one of the loopholes the dealership's warranty probably used to refuse your claim. Also... could it even be possible that indeed you or someone in your house hit a pothole or two with the car and generated the need for a simple front end alignment? If your car doesn't exhibit bad steering / driving behavior, perhaps the dealership was lying to you about the "bad front end", so they don't have to honor the tire warranty. But again... if you didn't follow all the rules associated with the program (tire rotations, front end alignments, etc.) they may have just enough of a loophole to jump through.

The engine light problem is probably due to an easily fixable issue IF put into the hands of a competent dealer. Brakes can easily be shot by 25-30k depending on where you live (mountains?) or whether you drive a lot of city traffic. Don't say your car's a piece of crap just because you have to replace a set of disc pads by 25k miles.

To summarize, I say your actual 2 problems are the horrible dealership you're taking the car to, AND getting the engine light issue resolved.

Go to another Kia dealership and have them explain why your front end is "bad", and why the engine light is on and is running poorly.

My experience with a good sole-source Kia dealership and warranty issues has been excellent. And that's 4+ years into the the 5 year bumper-to-bumper coverage!

And by all means I encourage you to draft up a well written and civil toned letter that describes your horrible treatment by the dealer you describe and to send it to Kia. They can't fix a problem if they don't know about it!

Try this website to see if you can write to them with your story:
ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs/index.html

(It's currently not coming up (5/16), but that could be due to a weekend server update/upgrade issue, etc.)

Let us know what the new dealer says about your car, or if Kia Corporate responds to you.
