Subject: Fathers Rights

I’m a 20 year old father from the north of Ireland. My son is 15 months. I currently see my son 27 out of the 168 hours a week. My son currently lives with his mother’s parents and his mother is living with her partner. His grandparents have no legal right to at this point have residency. Earlier this year I myself applied for residency along with my ex partners parents. This application only came about after a few months when it became clear to the court that his mother didn’t want residency (something I knew from the start). Before the application came about I had expressed my intention to pursue a residency order to both my own solicitor and the court welfare officer only to be virtually laughed at.
The past week I have been reading the articles and listening to the news broadcasts regarding Bob’s views and experiences on the above matter. I was very interested in his views that the father is seen to be second best to the mother when the magistrate in my case is still deliberating over whether my son is best served residing with his grandparents or with his parent.
I would like to thank Bob for highlighting this subject, any advice contacts or literature would be extremely appreciated.
