What the US has done in Iraq and Afghanistan pretty well corrosponds to WWI in terms of expensive war - settled nothing. WWII was shortly followed by WWIII, and I think the case will be the same now. And in very short order, less than ten years from now.

And yes, I think there will be nukes used during this war, two to five per years. Think of the last year of WWII, played out over and over.
