For a compost pile, either use a fence around it or build walls three or four feet high. You can even use used lumber. Doesn't have to be huge--just a couple of feet per side and if the dog's still attracted to it, put wire over the top.

When I'm making sauce from the tomatoes, if you scoop out the seeds and the watery stuff around them--in other words, just use the fleshy parts--it doesn't take nearly as long. Otherwise, it'll take all day to reduce. Another tip. Anytime i'm cooking with tomatoes, whether chili, pepper steak, spaghetti, I always put a bit of brown sugar in it. My grandmother taught me that one. It reduces some of the acid from tomatoes.

Another thought. you can find out online what growing zone you're in. Then find out how early you should plant broccoli and brussel sprouts.

If you like pork chops, instead of frying, put your seasoning on each and then put a teaspoon of apricot or peach preserves on top of each, spread it around and bake them.

Keep trying. You're on the right track.
